We are excited to have our fall men’s fishing weekend planned. To be honest though…. it’s not just about the fish. We are planning this Wisconsin get-a-way with the focus on our relationships with Jesus and the other guys on the trip as much as anything. Besides fishing, you can expect, worship and teaching around the campfire, meals together, prayer, and lots more. Our goal is to come home with fish, some great stories, new friendships, but also as better disciples of Jesus. The trip is open to guys 14 or older. However, anyone under 18 must have a male guardian with them on the trip.
Logistics
We will be leaving early the morning of Thursday, September 17 th and meeting in Three Lakes, Wisconsin that afternoon. We are staying at the family lodge of Paul & Mary Beth Elsen, located on the shore of Big Stone Lake. Fishing will be Thursday evening, Friday morning, Friday afternoon, Saturday morning, and Saturday afternoon. Sunday morning there we be an outdoor worship service, we pack up, and will be home that evening.
Food and Lodging
We will be sleeping in rustic cabins. Showers are available in the shower house. Breakfast will be ready for you early in the morning (eggs, sausage, potatoes, rolls/muffins, etc.) before hitting the boats. Lunch and dinner will feature the catches of the day (hopefully) and all the other good stuff that goes along with a shore meal. Bring any additional snacks you may want between meal times. We are staying on the property for the entire weekend.
Fishing
Big Stone Lake (and the connecting chain) are known for musky, walleye, large and small mouth bass, northern, and lots of panfish. It is a 607-acre lake with a max depth of 51’. We will have different games and challenges each day with some prizes awarded as well! We have several guys bringing boats for the trip and will be renting three pontoons for the weekend as well. Each time of fishing we will be mixing up the guys on the boats so that everyone gets to fish with different people. Each guy is allowed one pole in the water at a time.
Cost
There is a $225 registration cost that covers boat rental fees, gas, food, and transportation. You are responsible for your own fishing license, bait, and food to/from Three Lakes.
Stuff Needed
Plan on bringing your sleeping bag/blankets, pillow, toiletries, rain gear, campfire chair, fishing poles, tackle, bait. We will be outside a lot, so bring clothing that provides for some cool mornings and evenings too. Average temperatures are highs of 66 and lows about 42.
Spiritual Aspects
We will have a pre-trip meeting before we go to prepare our hearts for the trip. We also have planned time around the campfires at noon and evenings. You will also have time alone in His creation (on and off the boats) where you can spend time in prayer and reflecting on the scripture for that day. Sunday morning, we have a special worship service and there is an opportunity for anyone to be baptized if they are led that way.
